A Message for Volunteers Who Participated Last Year in 2010:
After you sign up to participate again this year, I will go back into my file from last year and confirm your group to revisit the SAME facility you went to last year. Unless you have a REAL dilemma with going to the same facility, please don't ask to be placed in another. Part of the volunteering experience is that you may have to drive a few miles, but all of the facilities are in north county with the exception of a few regulars who come from Carmel Valley. I really appreciate your flexibility with this!!
Can you help organize before the event?
I also need a couple of volunteers to call the facilities before the event to gather/confirm details. Please mention if you can help with this request in the comment section below.
Who will receive the Golden Rose Award? It could be YOU!!
Our gracious rose donors Dave Walker and Karen Lindsey of Avista Technologies also make it possible to give one of our volunteers The Golden Rose Award. Besides helping on the day of the event, the recipient of this award would likely help with some of the pre-event details like calling facilities, etc.
Roses for Our Senior Friends 2011 Event Information
Join our delivery of long-stem roses to residents at various senior care facilities within north county on Christmas Eve morning. We will meet up as a large group and you will check-in. At the check-in table, you will be given directions to a pre-assigned location to a senior facility and a bucket full of dethorned roses. PLEASE ARRIVE ON TIME but be aware that you will not leave until all volunteers have been accounted for. Expect to leave the park by approximately 10:30am. There will be coffee and morning refreshments available while you wait. We will then disperse and your group will caravan to your designated facility.
Please note* Children are warmly welcomed and encouraged to come! Due to the variety of facilities you may happen to be assigned to: assisted living, alzheimer's/dementia care, nursing/rehab centers, etc, parents should talk to kids about dementia and illness. What may seem like an uncomfortable exposure or unnatural experience in one of the facilities for adults, can be an opportunity for growth and maturity for children. Your attitude and way of explaining odd behavior to kids will completely shape how a child reacts and behaves towards our elders!
